Merk's rant

Been a while since I’ve talked to everybody. A few things that are happening…

Christmas is coming and we are going to have a SALE in the proshop. Everything in-stock will be 10% off. Some of you may think that 10% is not a whole lot of savings. Our prices include HST and shipping and are lower than suggested retail price to begin with. We have a lot of inventory, and new stock is arriving every day. Sale starts Monday Nov 29th.

Most of you know of Andrew Mercer and Cod Gone Wild. He has produced a CD that costs $20 and $5 goes to Junior Curling in our club. Kudos to Andrew and his band for trying to make a living playing music. Cod Gone Wild will be playing at Merk’s Christmas drop-in on Friday December 17th. Open to members and their guests. No cover-charge. Just come & enjoy some festive cheer and music.

The National is coming to town December 15th -19th. We are selling 50/50 tickets. VCC has been given the Thursday 5pm & 8pm draws for 50/50 ticket selling.

We will need 6 volunteers one hour prior to the draw times mentioned about. We can use 12 volunteers, 6 for each if we get enough offers to help. The VCC does receive a portion of the proceeds. Please email me asap if you are interested in selling.

Ice technicians are required to help with installation and maintenance during the event. Please contact me if you want to see how it is all done. I need a total of 12 people. Installation takes place Dec 10th-13th. It will be fun to learn how ice is really made. No experience necessary. Just time. You no longer have to have a RCMP background check so the process is simplified and I am choosing the team. I will be helping with the install. My son, Mike, is the assistant to Mark Shurek the Head Ice Technician for this event.

The 2nd annual 2 on 2 bonspiel is taking place December 28-30th. Games start no earlier than 5pm. The rules are posted on the website. $100 a team, 2 players, 4 ends, Cash prizes. A great post-Christmas activity. Consider signing up for the Men’s Bonspiel January 6-9th. Saturday night (Jan 8th)we will have the Goods playing. Sign up book is at the bar.

Raffle tickets have been distributed to all the teams in each league. Ensure you have your ticket for the Twin Anchors Houseboat Vacation. The tickets are in books of 4 to make it easy for a team to purchase or sell. All proceeds go to hosting the Men’s Provincial Championships Feb 7-13th.

Junior playdowns are taking place this weekend in Salmon Arm. Vernon is represented by 2 junior mens teams, and 3 junior womens teams..

Ladies playdowns are taking place next weekend in Summerland. We have no Vernon teams represented. What’s with that?

Mens playdowns are taking place in Kamloops mid-December. We have a few mens teams participating.

Good luck to all. Follow the action at www.playdowns.com

That’s all for now folks. I’m off to Kamloops to curl in the Labatt Crown of Curling
