Merk's rant

Hello everyone

Just a little update as to what is happening at the club. The upstairs lounge ceiling is in the process of being repainted. After that we will be covering the main beams in cedar. Then, in the month of August we will be replacing the carpet & the dance floor. If you are in the neighbourhood drop by and take a look.

In the meantime, a week ago FUNTASTIC offered the curling club the opportunity to host the 50/50 during their tournament this weekend, with all proceeds coming to the curling club. We scrambled to get the license & the tickets printed & t-shirts made…all in one short week. Now we need some volunteers. It starts this Friday, June 27th. We know this is short notice, but we feel it will be beneficial for the curling club, and something we can hopefully do in years to come.

The following shifts are available: (at DND site)
Fri Jun 27 – 4pm to 8pm
Sat Jun 28 – 11am to 4pm and 4pm to 8pm
Sun Jun 29 – 11am to 4pm and 4pm to 8pm
Monday Jun 30th (tentatively) – 11am to 4pm only

We’re also looking for some dayshift people to flog tickets at Kin Park and Grahame Park. If you live near one of these parks, this would be ideal for you.

We weren’t given a lot of time to get this organized, but we’re going to do it and raise money for the club. We could use your help. Parking & event day Passes will be provided for your shift. Those working the later shifts will be able to stay afterwards for the evening entertainment.

Please email the club if you have some time to spare

Merk's rant

Well, you know what, for my first year here, I thought it was a good year. I hope you have enjoyed the curling season, as much as I have enjoyed being a part of the Vernon Curling Club. My staff worked real hard this year to help to make things go as smooth as possible. And as always, there is room for improvement. All in all it was a successful year and I hope you feel the same and I am really looking forward to coming back next year.

We’re winding down the season with the Ford World Women’s Curling Championship. I am sure everybody knows the dates and what’s involved. As a special feature, this year, we will be hosting the finals of our Curling Club Championships on arena ice at the Wesbild Centre (Multiplex) on Thursday March 20th Teams are as follows:

SuperLeague – Sexton vs Cotter
Mens – Geistlinger vs McDougall
Ladies – Vedan vs Gaudet
Mixed – Laface vs West

Doors open at 6pm. The teams will have short practice and then will be piped onto the ice at 6:25pm. Games begin at 6:30pm. It would be really really neat for all these people playing to have lots of spectators cheering them on. At the conclusion of the games the plan is for everybody to come back to Keith’s Patch which is being held in the rink area at the VCC. There will be a live band, the Kings, and admission is free for everyone. Minors not permitted after 9pm.

I hope everyone understands how the Keith’s Patch works for the worlds. Only ticket holders or volunteers are permitted access. This does not necessarily mean you will be turned away. If there is room in the Patch, and you tell the door people you are a VCC member you will be allowed into the Patch, providing we do not exceed capacity. This event is very important to the City of Vernon and the VCC so we are going to put on a great show. I do encourage all of you, if you haven’t yet, to buy a ticket or two and experience the action live while it’s being broadcast around the world. It’s a really neat experience. I am involved on the ice, if you see me working on the ice holler down to me “Hey Merk! How ya doin?”. This event is a great way to end my first season as Manager/Ice Tech at the Vernon Curling Club.

Things are a little harried right now. Stay tuned for news of what’s happening at the VCC and follow the website for next season’s details.

Thanks for your support this year
